Hello, welcome and I hope we're all safe? In today's post,I'll be talking on anime. I'm particularly excited about this article, not only because it's on a concept I've grown very interested in, but it's also the first article I took the time to construct. While my other posts were mainly thoughts off the top of my head combined with social media narratives and the 'here says' from other people's perspectives, this one was thoroughly constructed to relay my interests on the matter. So can I get an A for effort, please? With enough said, let's dive into the beautiful, action-packed, emotional and, of course, erotic world of ANIME.
WHAT'S AN ANIME?
Anime, in simple terms, are hand-drawn or computer-generated initially from or closely related to Japan. The name, anime, is a Japanese term for animation, as it covers all forms of animated works. Unlike their Western brothers - as many people tend to confuse an anime with cartoons-[A/N: Such statements should NEVER be made in the presence of seasoned anime lovers (or Otakus for short) as innocent lives have been lost as a result of such ignorance], anime, with its distinctive production methods, techniques and diverse art forms, give their viewing audience an inside look into an entirely different culture far from their own be it in a simple or more sophisticated way of animating style.
Another thing that gives anime its uniqueness is the forms in which each production can take - depending on the various studios handling them, of course. Apart from the generic 2D animation styles we see in Western art, the Japanese animation styles span out into 2-D,3-D,2D with a bit of Computer Generated Imaging, CGI and many more.
For a Japanese animation, you are sure to expect that the script would not be written in plain English but the native language of Japanese. This has been the deterrent for many people as they don't see themselves watching a series in another language. (A/N: Now that is some extreme BS as we all must have, at some point growing up, watched a Chinese martial arts movie with either Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan in it and sure as hell, no English was being spoken in them, so we had to rely on the subtitles). Just like the Chinese movies, the Japanese animes are also encoded with subtitles for an easy read. There are also versions of each anime that are dubbed in English for people who don't want to go through the stress of having to switch between reading lines of dialogue while trying to keep up with the storytelling (A/N: Unfortunately for them, as they would never be able to unlock their Sharingan)
So let language not be a hindrance to your happiness, please.
GENRES & SUB-GENRES
Just as there are genres in every literary work, so are their genres in the Japanese animation business. However, apart from these genres, it is the subgenres that give every work of anime, its uniqueness as each subgenre could either stand on its own in a given anime series/movies or could work hand in hand with other subgenres for either complimenting or buffering the effects of the different genres.
The anime genres include, but are not limited to Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Horror, Comedy and so on while the subgenres(A/N: These are the sub-branches of anime I would be focusing on) are: Isekai, Harem, Hentai, Ecchi, Post Apocalyptic, Mecha, Seinen, Game, Shoujo, Shounen and many more.
1. ISEKAI(ANOTHER WORLD)
Isekai anime is one of my favourite subgenres of anime because of its simplistic and wholesome contents it shows.
In an isekai, A protagonist when upon their deaths - which more often than nought by the wheels of the dreaded truck-kun - get transported to a fantasy world endowed with powers which helps them explore this new world as along their journey meet other characters and are sometimes pulled into action-packed fights with the villains in that world. Now the thing about Isekais is we never really understand how or why they get transported into these fantasy worlds because that is never where the story begins. Some of the deaths could be caused by less harmful situations like say a stabbing, sleeping and even surprisingly sneezing. At the same time, other times, the people of those fantasy worlds call upon the aid- using teleportation - of mundane characters to help them during a time of crisis in the land.
The layout in these fantasy worlds is most of the time game based particularly of the adventure kind as we see the protagonist try to level up their power levels through the completion of tasks often regarded as Quests. In some cases, the protagonist comes in with already overpowering levels. One example of an isekai that explains it all is, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta ken or, That Time I got reincarnated as a slime.
Now I know what you're thinking, WHAT KIND OF DUMB ASS NAME FOR AN ANIME IS THAT? But I'm not lying to you when I tell you that this anime has to be the most fantastic work of isekai creations ever. It tells the story about a guy named Mikami Satoru who, after getting stabbed by an unknown assailant(because truck-kun must have been busy with other victims that day), gets transformed into a slime - Yes, a freaking stud- and gets transported to an unfamiliar cave in another world. Upon his isekai-dom, he is given the uniques "skill" of Predator, which allows him to devour any kind of matter and can mimic their skills as his own and Great Sage, which is the medieval prototype of Siri. While wandering through this cave, he stumbles upon Veldora, a Catastrophe-level Storm Dragon who is imprisoned in an unbreakable magical prison for 300 years. The two form an unlikely bond and Satoru is given a new name, Rimuru Tempest. Now for the kicker. As a show of friendship, Rimuru decides to help Veldora by breaking free of his prison, and the only way they could come up with was for Rimuru to use his predator skill and devour Veldora along with his prison seal. Weird...right?
Throughout the series, you see Rimuru create alliances with other compelling characters(well, he's more OP because he has a freaking dragon inside him), many epic battles. At the end of every episode, you keep asking yourself: Did a slime just unite different races of creatures and even humans under his protection? or did Rimuru just devour a girl? (A/N: That did happen but not in the way you are thinking... perverts). The isekai subgenre is an absolute must-watch for lovers of pure simplistic comedy, intense OP battles and the unpredictable ways people die in this world. Other amazing isekai animes to check out our Sword Art Online(SAO), The Rising of the Shield Hero, Re: Zero, Overlord and loads more.
2. DEMONS.
Yes, you heard me, Demons. But don't be afraid to try animes of this subgenre as the occultic factor is usually toned down with a bit of comedy and other genres. Series such as Hataraku Maō-sama(The Devil is a part-timer), the story of Lord Satan who, as a measure of last resorts, flees his world to Tokyo, Japan and even in his less godly state still tries to achieve world domination... as a fast-food employee. This genre doesn't only mean demonic characters as other supernaturals like angels, beasts and monsters come into play as well. Other series in this genre include Blue Exorcist, Black Butler, Nanatsu no Taizi (Seven Deadly Sins), Devilman: Crybaby and so on.
3. HAREM
Harem animes are every young man's dream - To be surrounded by big, beautiful, busty women. In this genre, the male protagonist is surrounded by characters of the opposite sex who later on become potential love interests. (A/N: IKR! HEAVEN!!). Harem animes are paired mostly with ecchi contents(A/N: I will be talking about this next) with awkward moments and sexual innuendos along with wholesome comedy and action. Example of Harem series are High School DxD, Trinity Seven and others
4. ECCHI
Are you a pervert? Do you crave a series with sexually provocative scenes, innuendos and humorous situations? Then congratulations, my brother, the anime gods have acknowledged our existence and have given us the jewel that is Ecchi. In ecchi anime, characters are put in situations that call for some harmless nudity. However, the humorous nature of the case tends to act as a buffer in ecchi. Thus, preventing us from asking ourselves the question: Is this hentai(porn)? Besides the comedic factor, ecchi has loads of action-packed scenes that would make you come back for more. Shows like Gleipnir(where the above picture scene comes from), Plunderers, Shokugeki no Soma(Food Wars), Shinmai Maou no Testament have just the right amount of story, action and ecchi to make your little guy super excited. (A/N: But NEVER mistake ecchi with hentai)
5. Post Apocalyptic.
Post-apocalyptic animes are usually set in a dystopian world where the characters have to fight their way through an earth devastating event. Elements in this series are of the horror, action and gore-ish manner. Like the series in the picture, Attack on Titan, humans are driven into isolation against the attacks of humanoid creatures that devour them for reasons they are not sure of. In a post-apocalyptic genre, you are sure to see a lot of blood, and it gives off that Game of Thrones feel where the guy who you keep rooting just might end up being titan food. Other animes within this genre include Kabaneri of the iron fortress, Sound of the sky and High School of the Dead.
6. SHOUNEN JUMP
Everybody should already be familiar with this genre because of how popular they are and the audience they tend to attract. Shounen animes are tailored to the male viewers, although, within the age bracket of 10-18 but the older audience can still watch it. Heck, I'm just starting Naruto (A/N: This a shame on my part). Like all animes, shounen is adapted from their manga series and can be identified with their lengthy episodes. I mean, can you imagine watching a series of over 500 episodes? Like why would you subject yourself to that torture? Because... We Are OTAKUS!!! Irrespective of their lengthy events (with some of them usually containing stories that don't even have anything to do with the plot), their relatively simple plots, action-packed adventures, and lovable characters make shounen jump series an easy watch. They remain the cause of many heated arguments. Shows like Naruto and Bleach, which have long ended their story are always talked about till today. Other shounen jump series include Black Clover, Boruto, Fairy tale and so many more.
7. SEINEN
Being the senior brother to shounen, the seinen genre showcases animes tailored to a much older audience with a more matured content containing action, gore, sex, violence and suspense-filled mystery.
For example, the series Death Note, to summarise the story, is about a boy Light Yagami who discovers a notebook in which any name is written in the pages of the book dies. Such a simple concept that you would never have guessed could pan out into one of the most excellent seinen series ever made. Other thoughts provoking seinen series worth mentioning are Psycho-Pass, Attack on Titan, the just concluded ID: Invaded, Parasyte Maxim and many more.
So there you have it, folks. Whether is light-hearted fun-filled with action-packed scenes or sensually stimulative series, the anime world has just what you're looking for. So why not overcome the boredom of lockdown and start an episode today?
Had me going
