Don't you miss it. Your Freedom.

Don't you miss it? The time your naivety was looked over as childish innocence. The period when walking home from school and getting a free ride home from a stranger was not a rare feat. When you could be lazy and carefree without the sinking feeling of your own mortality drowning your every moment. Where in the sake of making money, we resort to deceitful and hurtful means just for the sake of making 'paper'.
Can we go back to the time when passion outweighed profit? And the pursuit of happiness was not tainted by capricious capitalism. Is it a fool's dream to want a world where the means must and should always justify the end.

Don't you miss it? That security blanket you had in the form of a family member, extended or immediate, whom you were sure would protect you as one of theirs. So when did it all go wrong? When did we lose that blanket or rather when did that blanket stop performing its duty. What is a family but that safety net which always carried you, your feelings, your aspirations and secrets till the very end?
What happens to you when that net is no longer there and you find yourself free-falling down into the world with no one protecting you against the harsh realities of life. When did that bond gets changed from a bond of love to a bond of  'take and take' and animosity became the new normal?

Don't you miss it? When the word Love was such a revered word, almost as sacred as the name of Christ for such words could not be professed so easily without a little bit of sacrifice. As the Bible had put it: "Faith without works is dead", so is Love without the proper actions dead as well. Is carnal satisfaction the only means of showing affection? Is that all there is in a two-person relationship?
Are we that desperate to find some sort of attachment that we are willing to give ourselves to our primal instincts just to have a form of validation from total strangers?  Is chivalry truly dead? Are we too lazy to put in the little effort needed to make "love" work or are we too selfish that we cannot sacrifice a part of ourselves to the one whom we confessed our half assessed love to?
It's so easy to throw that word around as we never bear its burden before we jump to the next gullible human. Love should come easy, yes, but the sacrifices it carries come in hard and heavy.

Don't you miss it? The sanctity of the church of God. How acts of sin could never be perpetrated within its four walls without fear of being seen by His all-seeing eye. How we'd run to the altar to confess our sins and even the most minute sign of backsliding is met with the fear of being 'unworthy' to enter those white gates. How did this same Holy place be turned into a place of business with buying and selling taking different forms in the church?
Since when has the blessed act of performing miracles turned into a show of strength- a sort of entertainment- and not the strength of the Holy One but the strength of the holy one. God is replaced by His prophets as the masses clamour to the things of the physical whilst overlooking the spiritual. I guess Jesus was right when he said that many would come in His name and blind the people with their tricks and thrills but, in all honesty, how do we tell what is real and what is fake? Do we wait for another burning bush, in this concrete jungle of ours, to reveal to us the truth our hearts have been trying to tell us? How much faith do we need before we all fall down?

Don't you miss it? The peace of mind you had when walking across the street without the manifestation of a third eye at the back of your head? When did crime overtake our social life and tales of atrocities flood our news and social media feeds? Since when was it okay to peddle sex to the masses as nowhere is safe for the innocent eyes of the younger generation.
We were so ignorant that we did not believe that certain crimes could ever hit us at home, yet it did. And while some took to the streets, others took to the internet, where they peddled lies and rumours and causing more confusion amidst the crisis while hiding behind the veil of anonymity.

When will we open our eyes to see that the true enemy of the people is not the rich fools filling up political positions in order to fill up their pockets afterwards or illiterates taking up job positions without the proper educational foundation but the masses who use indifference and laziness to fortify their low capacity for excellence or lack thereof?

Life is happening so fast and as we try to catch up to it, we lose a bit of ourselves each time until there's nothing more than an empty shell of our once exuberant selves. Existing without ever living.
Don't you miss it? Your freedom.

  1. I know I do miss being young. Knowing the world as cold and complicated as it is probably is the worst thing that can happen to an individual yet dare I say that ignorance of the fact is not necessarily freedom.

    1. I'm not necessarily saying we should play ignorant. But we should at least try to not conform to the new ideals society has made to be our new normal

  2. There is something about being a child. You tend to still see the world as a bed if roses even in the face of adversity
